Answer the research questions

In the same way that the research questions originate from an examination of the conversational data (see Step 5: Ask Questions), so the evidence required to answer these questions must also be drawn from the same conversational data. This is an essential aspect of CA methodology.

We will now consider in turn each of the research questions that we posed earlier, i.e.

1. Who speaks most?

2. What is the function of Jim’s minimal turns in this conversation?

3. Does one interlocutor adopt a predominantly respondent role?
